2025 John Cary Scholarship STUDENT Application

Ends on

The John Cary Scholarships will be given to selected graduating students who receive services from the Special School District of St. Louis County – special education and/or technical education. The selected students will reflect the characteristics most admired by John Cary – resiliency, courage and determination.

Please complete all the items on the application to be considered for a scholarship. Please include the following information:

  • Student Essay - The essay should focus on student resiliency and determination to succeed. The essay must be written by the student and be specifically to the Special Education Foundation’s mission. It must also state why the scholarship is requested and how it will benefit the applicant. Writing should be clear and accurate.
  • Financial need statement and a copy of pages 1-2 of the parent/guardian(s) most recent 1040 tax form must accompany the application (please remove social security numbers from the form).
  • Academics including the student's transcript (official copy not required).
  • Activities - Attachments, such as resumes in place of the information requested in the form, will NOT be accepted.

Once we have received the Student application, we will notify his/her SSD teacher to complete a Teacher nomination application. Both applications are required to be considered for the scholarship.

Once the student and teacher applications are complete and submitted, an SEF committee will review and those selected will be notified. The Special Education Foundation’s John Cary Scholarships can be used for tuition only. The scholarship must be used during the upcoming school year.
